ABOUT MARIA CANO
I was born in Zapopan, a city in the Mexican state of Jalisco, to a family of six. I have two older brothers and an older sister, making me the youngest of the four children. In 2003 my family decided to move to the United States, and I have lived in California ever since.
When I was in high school, I remember stumbling upon a Korean drama on YouTube called Boys Over Flowers, and after watching a few episodes I was hooked! I loved them because they were much shorter than Mexican novelas, and they had both a good story line and excellent drama.
However, the majority of the endings were sorely lacking, and this is what caused me to get into editing: I would create my own endings for the dramas that I watched. Editing, in turn, led me into the world of film.
What I enjoy the most about film making is being able to create stories that closely portray real life situations. I want my viewers to be able to relate to my films and learn from them, or simply have a good time. With my stories I want to
make a difference by reaching as large of an audience as possible, and as a Mexican filmmaker I would also like to share my culture through the production of high-quality cinema.
